For those of you that are not familiar with how a Browser works, allow us a few minutes to explain.

An Internet Browser is the primary software tool for surfing around the Internet. With this software, you are able to access web pages, download files, download music, video, and other software, plan your vacation, do your taxes, go shopping, watch live concerts,...basically anything you can think of, all from one screen! It's pretty amazing.

Once you have established your connection, you are then able to type in the desired URL ( Uniform Resource Locator ) - basically a fancy name for a web address) in the address field at the top, and then hit Enter. You will find yourself magically wisked away to your favorite web page in a matter of seconds!

You should be aware that the performance of any web browser is based almost entirely on the speed of your connection. There is nothing slower then a 56K modem even sold anymore. But these days, even that is considered slow compared to the rapidly expanding broad band access in the form of Cable and DSL that is now available. The slower your connection, the longer it takes to access, or build, a web page. Where a 56k modem might take 10, or 12, or even 30 seconds to build a web page, by contrast, Cable or DSL might display the same web page to you in a second or two. If you are doing a lot of surfing, this will have a big impact on your ability to surf efficiently. It's kind of like the difference between putting out a fire with a small garden hose as opposed to an industiral strength fire hose!
