What's supporting software?
Millennium uses a number of products made by other vendors (MicroSoft, Core Technologies, and others) to provide the final product you see.

Why do I need to go through the trouble of updating all of this software?
Supporting software is used to provide features and conveniences, it's also used to provide a very basic level of functionality.  If you're experiencing erratic or unpredictable behavior from Millennium, it's very likely the primary cause is some out-of-date component.

What do I do?
Easy, check the list below and see if your computer possesses the latest version of the necessary software.  If you're not sure or you're experiencing some problem with Millennium it might be advisable to update everything ... that way you're sure.  Each section below contains the following:

  • The name of the supporting component.
  • A brief description of what the software does.
  • The version needed by Millennium and instructions for checking what version your computer possesses.
  • A link to download the latest files if you need them.

Internet Explorer

Description: Web browsing software from MicroSoft (tm).  Millennium is a browser based software application, meaning it is also a web browser.  BidPlus relies on certain Internet Explorer componenets being present to operate correctly.  Requiring IE to be installed on your computer does not preclude you from using other web browsing software, it only means BidPlus needs some of the files provided by Internet Explorer.

Required Version: Millennium and the other supporting software using IE require version 6.0 or higher.

What version do I have?: Open Internet Explorer, click 'Help', and 'About Internet Explorer', the version information will be displayed.

Where to get the latest version: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie.

Misc: If you have a BidPlus Installation CD you'll find it contains IE version 6, this will save you a download.  If you need to download IE and have are using a dial-up connection, plan on a lengthy download.

MicroSoft Java Virtual Machine

Description: Used in the creation of objects and classes (like the new Unimatic/Apollo terminal) and other web-based duties. PLEASE NOTE: This is different then JRE (Java Runtime Environment) which is required to be installed in order to access Unimatic through your AOL software.

Where to get the latest version: Click this link: http://www.bidplus.com/msjavx86.exe. Don't forget to actually run the installation file after you download it!!!  Just downloading the file won't do anything.

Misc:  If you're encountering ANY problems connecting, including the error "Unable to create AMClient", or experiencing any other peculiar problems with the program it's a good idea to update this component.

Windows XP Update

Description: Used to keep your version of Windows XP up to date with the latest patches and fixes. There may be some issues addressed that affect the performance of the BidPlus Millennium software on your computer.

Required Version: New patches and updates are available on a regular basis as new problems are discovered and addressed.

Where Do I Get The Latest Version: Click Start-->Windows Update.

Misc: We had one user report a connection problem on two different computers, both running Windows XP. Once the Windows update was installed, specifically a patch called "Q319322", he was able to connect with both computers.
